“Our journey has been anything but ordinary.
Through every step, we've focused on staying true to our values and making space for thoughtful, intentional, and lasting connections.”

—Vanessa M. Garrett, Founder

Built and led by the people closest to the work…

We believe your past is not a liability. Assets Ascending of Georgia is a peer-led nonprofit walking with parents as they come home.

OUR STORY

Founded on a simple, radical belief:

The people returning home are assets, not liabilities — the people closest to the problem are closest to the solution.

Assets Ascending of Georgia was founded and is led by people who have lived through incarceration and reentry themselves. That lived experience isn't a footnote to our work; it's the foundation of it. We meet returning parents with recognition instead of judgment, and with a plan instead of a pamphlet.

We surround formerly incarcerated parents with dignity, intention, and personalized peer support so they can reenter, reunify with their children, reclaim their role as caregivers, and break the generational cycle of incarceration.

OUR MISSION

Why we exist

Where parents heal, families are whole, and communities are restored.

OUR VISION

Where we’re headed

A Georgia where every parent returning from incarceration is met as an asset, not a liability; where restoration replaces stigma, families stay whole, and communities are stronger because no one is left to ascend alone.

ASCENDING THROUGH RESTORATION

WHAT WE BELIEVE

Four commitments guide everything

The pillars beneath every program we run.

Empower

Peer support that restores agency, confidence, and the belief that a different future is possible.

Belonging

A community that recognizes you, welcomes you, and holds space for you exactly as you are.

Educate

Skills, tools, and knowledge that open doors to a stable, self-determined next chapter.

Nurture

Whole-person care for parents and their children, because healing has to reach the whole family.

Uplifting parents. Reuniting children.

Building community.

We built this organization because we lived every step of it.

The intake with nowhere to go, the parole packet that had to tell the truth, the first supervised visit, the first night back under one roof. Your gift means the next parent doesn't walk that path alone. It funds the bed, the peer support, the packet, and the plan that gets a family whole again.
